Joe's Pub, New York : Justin Vivian Bond Shows Up Late for Love

Spread the love in ’17!

In an attempt to practice radical empathy Mx Justin Vivian Bond is stepping out of their liberal champagne bubble and venturing on a cultural fact finding mission across America. Sticking with their credo, “Keep it Pretty, Keep, it Shallow, Keep it Moving,” Mx Bond asks, “Why alienate when you can infiltrate?”

Share thoughts, ideas and world views with this trans-genre phenomenon and as they explore what common links we can enjoy with the right social lubricants and musical interludes but never forget, “Glamour is Resistance!”

Performance: Dixie McCall's Patterns for Living

The Spiegeltent season kicks off with a 25th-anniversary revival of the show that catapulted Mx. Justin Vivian Bond to fame. First performed in a hole-in-the-wall in San Francisco, Dixie laid the groundwork for a career that would span from basement clubs to Broadway. Born of Bond’s obsession with the sultry glamour of singer Julie London, who played nurse Dixie McCall in the 1970s' TV show Emergency!, this special encore presentation is accompanied by pianist Thomas "Doveman" Bartlett.

Queering the BibliObject presents works by contemporary lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender artists who explore the book as an object, removed from both the narrative function and cover-to-cover form of the traditional artist’s book.
The exhibition queries how the presence, absence, affect, and phenomenology of bibliobjects is heightened for LGBTQ individuals across cultures and chronologies, and considers how the treatment of the book as an object is a particularly queer artistic strategy.
